3 Things Not to Miss on a Trip to Bhutan
Bhutan is a beautiful country which remains off the beaten tourist track, and so now is the time to get there before it becomes overrun by foreigners. It is home to some amazing things to see and do, and I’ve put together three of my favourites below that you have to experience if you go on a trip to Bhutan:
Go on a Pilgrimage
Hike up to Taktsang Lhakhang (Tiger’s Nest Temple) which is the most famous of Bhutan’s places to go on a pilgrimage. It is high in the valleys 609 metres up and affords incredible views when you get there. It’s certainly worth the effort.
Meet the Takin
The Takin is Bhutan’s national animal and has to be seen on a visit here. You can see it at the Motithang Takin Preserve in Timphu and tick off another once in a lifetime box! The Takin is a cross between a cow and a goat and is extremely important to the people of Bhutan.
Visit a Market
Bhutan is home to many stunning markets which sell everything you can imagine. Thimpu’s markets are home to some excellent handicraft items if that floats your boat!
